Hobbies for Women over 50

Hobbies for women over 50, are they tough to come up with? Not at all! I just have to look at my mum and her busy schedule and I can think of millions just like that. Let me ask you something - When you think of 50, do you immediately think old? Think again. 50 is no longer one of the 'old' ages. Think of it this way, do you feel your age? Do you feel like you're 30 something just 'coz they say you are? And do you let anyone define how you should feel? No, correct? Well, then I'm not making an exception with hobbies for women over 50 either. In the following article I shall give you some ideas for new hobbies for women at home and outside. And if you think they aren't age appropriate then I suggest you let the 50 year old decide what they can take up and what they can't from these list of hobbies.

Hobbies for Older Women

I sincerely hope that you do not let age come in the way of pursuing any of these list of hobbies and interests. Some of these hobbies might seem like they are a stretch to the age factor, but I've only given examples of hobbies for women that I know have been pursued by women much over 50!

Book Club
Join a book club! And you know age is not a factor for this one. It could be a private club or you could take the initiative and form one with your closest friends or neighbors. This is a great way to give an outlet to the voracious reader in you and it doesn't really cost as much. This is one of those cheap hobbies for women over 50 that you don't have to invest much in. But yes, it does require planning.

Swimming
Always wanted to try swimming as an outdoor hobby and never could? What's stopping you now? I know a lady who not only started taking up swimming at 60, but also swum across a river with the other team members. And she wasn't fit to begin with, but by keeping at the swimming bit, she got fitter and her confidence soared! All I say is, give it a try and who knows, maybe you'll love it too. And you don't have to stick to swimming only, if you're really fit, get into more strenuous activities like kayaking, hiking, cycling and dancing. After all it is said that hobbies help keep women healthy.

Arts and Design
Arts offers so much to learn from. You could get into a whole list of hobbies in this one - pottery, sculpting, making clay models, making models of paper mache or designing lamps for a boutique. If you have talent and a genuine interest in these forms, you'll enjoy doing these creative hobbies at home and if you're really good, not only will it be a good way to pass the time but also a hobby that makes money on the side. A hobby that pays? Win-win!

Take up a Course
Take up a new course as a fun hobby. It could be a study course, like learning a language or taking admissions for a part time course in a subject of your choice, or it could even be cooking as a hobby, learning to cook specialty dishes for example.

Join a NGO
If you believe in the cause of doing good for society and want to work in that direction then you can join a NGO (Non-government Organization), or a charity organization. These organizations organize separate activities like food drives, clothes drives and more.

List of Hobbies for Women

Here is a list of some other hobbies for women over 50. These are some of the more conventional and popular hobbies, but they still make for really good hobbies to pick up:

    * Gardening
    * Poetry club
    * Stitching/Knitting
    * Playing cards
    * Yoga classes
    * Cooking

And those were some of the hobbies for women over 50 that I could think of. But you don't let it stop here. Think of whatever you enjoy and then go at it. And please, do not even let the age factor come into the picture. And most importantly, have fun!
