Retirement Hobbies for Men

Many people look forward to the post retirement phase of life because that is when you can live life like a free bird. When there is not much to worry about and you have plenty of time. But strangely we find ourselves not ready for so much free time and inactivity. This sudden change of routine can also become stressful. At such a time, hobbies can be a great way to pass this surplus time and enjoy life. Though everyone has some hobby, every hobby is not realizable in old age. In the next few paragraphs I will give you some ideas for post retirement hobbies for men.

Best Retirement Hobbies for Men

Retirement hobbies are the hobbies that were enjoyed during the professional life too but retirement lets you focus on them and take up more such hobbies. But you are bound to get bored of it after a certain limit. So it is good to have a list of hobbies so that you can switch between them and enjoy life. So go through these things to do when you retire and pick what catches your fancy.

Music
So you always wanted to learn to play a guitar, now is your time. Join some music classes or learn it yourself. You can not only enjoy yourself but also entertain others. Visit jazz clubs, or blues performances, musical theater or just listen to music in your home for relaxation and inspiration. If you have a few retired friends who are also interested in music, you can start a band of your own and play at local pubs etc.

Book Clubs
Books are your best friends. But just reading books day after day can get a little boring after a while. A solution to that is a book club. Talk to all the retirees in your area or call up all your friends they will surely like the idea. All you need now is a place to get together. I'm sure that will not be a very big deal. You can discuss a certain book or a certain type of book, or people can share their own writing. You will never run out of things to discuss.

Writing
You don't need huge talent to pursue this hobby unless you are planning to become a full fledged published writer. Even that has become easy with so many self publishing tools available. If you think you are not that good at writing but you like doing it you can start a blog. Then you can tell about it to your friends and family and see their response to it. It will also give you a lot of writing practice and you will enjoy it.

Volunteer
Another very good and rewarding hobby is volunteering for non profit organizations or charities. You could also start your own non profit organization but that will need some work, so it is better to work for already established organizations. You will not only utilize your time in the best possible way but you will also feel very good about yourself at the end of the day.

  1. Indeed. Sometimes, it's best to slow down on your daily schedule while you get used to life as a senior citizen. A bit of exercise is pretty helpful; you'll have more time to keep yourself active (and more time to relax later) and it will keep your body healthy and strong!
