Casey Stoner Recuperates On Barra and Crocs in Australia's Northern Territory

When he’s not smoking the track on his Ducati GP9 in the Road Racing World Championship Grand Prix, Australia’s Casey Stoner loves nothing more than going fishing.

Stoner, who won the Moto GP World Championship in 2007 at age 21, has pulled out of three Grand Prixs in August-September due to physical problems associated with severe fatigue.

And what better way to recuperate than a spot of fishing in the Top End. Last week, Stoner and his cousin Mark Ranger drove from their home town of Tamworth NSW all the way to the Darwin.

On Wednesday they went barra fishing to Corroboree Billabong with Northern Territory News fishing writer, Alex Julius, and visiting Queensland fishing guide, Jason Wilhelm.

"We’d been fishing from the jetty in the harbor and around the Nightcliff foreshore without success," Casey said.

"I’ve basically wanted to keep low key but we weren’t having much luck with the fish.

"But Wednesday was fantastic.

"We caught lots of fish, saw huge crocs and amazing bird life – it was just like I expected Top End barra fishing to be," Stoner said.

"I feel I’m getting better up here, and my appetite has really come back," the former world champion said.

Stoner will next return to action at the beginning of October for the Grand Prix of Portugal.
