Homemade Jewelry Ideas

Choose Your Style
Jewelry is mostly classified as traditional and trendy. Traditional style includes creating jewelry pieces like choker or princess' necklace. Trendy jewelry is more contemporary and makes use of a range of materials like pearls, precious stones and metals, glass or wood beads or even leather. If you are planning to gift your creation to someone, then you ought to consider his/her personal taste. Choose your style and jewelry piece as per your recipient's taste. Pearl necklaces are usually best suited for older women, whereas colorful and funky beaded necklaces look great on younger women. Earrings or studs are a cool gift item for men.

Collect Your Tools and Materials
Once you have finalized your style, it is time to buy your requirements. Apart from the main components like beads, pearls, precious stones, etc., you will need an array of supporting components like clasps, strings, hooks, etc. Additionally, you will also need to buy tools like scissors, pliers, etc. You may find your supplies at any jewelry shop that deals in repair work of jewelry items.

Choose Your Designs
Homemade jewelry designs are often unique and reflect the creator's individual taste. Hence, you can always come up with your own design ideas for making jewelry. You may also refer to magazines or websites for inspiration.

How to Make Homemade Jewelry

Angel Charm
Tools and Materials

    * One 1½" long head pin
    * One 4mm round bead
    * One 6mm round bead
    * One 4mm Bali style flat flower bead
    * One angel wings bead
    * One pair round nose pliers
    * One pair flat or needle nose pliers

Instructions

Slide the 6mm round bead through the head pin so as to make the body of the angel charm. Next, slide the angel wings bead, followed by a 4mm round bead to make the head. Then goes the 4mm Bali style flat flower bead which makes the halo. Using a round nose plier secure the head pin right above the halo. Encircle the pin around the pliers to make a loop. Repeat this process three more times to ensure the beads stay tightly together. Trim the excess pin length with the needle nose pliers. Your charming angel charm is ready!

Pearl/Bead Princess Necklace
Tools and Materials

    * One 20'' long nylon string
    * Pearls or beads in colors of your choice
    * Necklace clasps
    * Scissors

Instructions

This is a basic necklace with a prominent bead at center and symmetrical formation on either side. Hence, you may only use one brightly colored pearl/bead at center and thread other beads on each side. Firstly begin with the center of the necklace by threading the prominent bead. Then go on threading the colored beads on each side of the center bead. Leave some space at the end and make a loop. Fix the necklace clasp through the loop at the end. Your princess necklace is ready to wear.

You can also make a homemade jewelry holder to store your homemade jewelry in. Jewelry holders themselves make a great gift. You may consider commercializing your work if your creation has a hint of finesse.
