Making DIY projects with wood might seem like a challenge. But there are many woodworking projects that are simple and can be completed on a weekend. Woodworking involves building or carving things like tables, chairs, beds, jewelry boxes, or any other useful item with wood. If you are new to woodworking and possess only the most basic skills then an easy woodworking project would be to make a simple table like a coffee table or a bedside table. Here we are going to discuss about wood working table plans.
Woodworking Coffee Table Plans
One of the easiest woodworking table plans for a novice is a simple no frills coffee table. If you want a unique coffee table that goes well with contemporary home decor, then making a tree stump coffee table is a good idea. Given below is the details about the things required and how to build it.
Things required
* 1 tree stump
* Electric sander
* Wood filler
* Sandpaper (extra fine, fine and coarse grades)
* Wood primer
* 2 paintbrushes
* Enamel paint
* Hammer
* 4 furniture gliders
Procedure
To make the coffee table, first you need to clean the tree stump thoroughly and remove any dirt and debris from it. The wood should also be completely dry, as any moisture trapped within the wood will make painting the stump difficult. Next, you need to prepare the surface of the wood stump by sanding it with an electric sander. An electric sander will give the wood stump an even and smooth finish. Make sure that the surface of the stump is completely even. Once you are done preparing the surface of the stump, finish the surface with coarse and fine grade sandpaper so that the top is smooth.
If you notice any cracks or holes on the surface of the tree stump, then fill it with wood filler. When you are done preparing the table top, paint it with a coat of primer. When you are applying the primer make sure that you work slowly and use a smaller paint brush so that paint does not drip from the edges. Let the primer dry and then sand it with a fine grade sandpaper. Now apply a single coat of enamel paint and allow it to dry overnight. Attach the 4 furniture gliders to the bottom of the tree stump coffee table. These gliders will ensure that your floor remains scratch free if you drag the table from one point to another. Your tree stump coffee table is ready and you can place it in the living room. This is a one of the most simple beginner woodworking projects.
Woodworking Dining Table Plans
Finding a dining table that matches your family budget and also the decor of your room is quite hard. One good solution is to make a dining table yourself. Purchasing components of the woodworking table plans like ready made table legs, and its accompanying hardware, will make this one of the simplest woodworking ideas.
Things required
* 1 sheet ¾-inch plywood
* Two 10-foot 2-by-2s
* A few 1½ inch deck screws
* Wood glue
* Fine grit sandpaper
* Electric sander
* Wood Stain
* Hammer
* Tape measure
* Ready made table legs with metal brackets
* Circular saw
* Paintbrush
* Electric drill
* Industrial strength adhesive
Procedure
Mark a rectangle on the plywood which is 42 inch in width and 60 inch in length. Cut the plywood with the help of the circular saw. With the remaining plywood, cut four 6 inch squares. Next, cut the 2-by-2s into two 60 inch, in length, pieces and two 42 inch pieces. Attach these pieces at the perimeter of the bigger rectangular plywood piece which is the dining table top, with the help of industrial strength glue. Let the glue dry completely and then attach the 6 inch squares of plywood that you had cut previously into the back of the table top at the corners. This will make your table top more strong, and will prevent it from sagging at the middle.
Next, sand the table top with an electric sander and smoothen the surface with a fine grit sandpaper. Apply a single coating of wood stain to the table top and allow it to dry completely. When the table top is completely dry, attach the ready-made table legs that you had bought to the table top with metal brackets and deck screws. You can stain the ready made table legs with the same wood stain that you had used for the table top. This will give the dining table a polished and finished look.
These were some woodworking table plans that you can make at home. If you want to transform your interiors and create something trendy and unique, then making your own wood furniture is a great idea. Instead of starting from scratch, you can also jazz up your old coffee table or nightstand with wooden carvings and a paint job, to transform it into something beautiful.
