Procedure

To make the coffee table, first you need to clean the tree stump thoroughly and remove any dirt and debris from it. The wood should also be completely dry, as any moisture trapped within the wood will make painting the stump difficult. Next, you need to prepare the surface of the wood stump by sanding it with an electric sander. An electric sander will give the wood stump an even and smooth finish. Make sure that the surface of the stump is completely even. Once you are done preparing the surface of the stump, finish the surface with coarse and fine grade sandpaper so that the top is smooth.

If you notice any cracks or holes on the surface of the tree stump, then fill it with wood filler. When you are done preparing the table top, paint it with a coat of primer. When you are applying the primer make sure that you work slowly and use a smaller paint brush so that paint does not drip from the edges. Let the primer dry and then sand it with a fine grade sandpaper. Now apply a single coat of enamel paint and allow it to dry overnight. Next, sand the table top with an electric sander and smoothen the surface with a fine grit sandpaper. Apply a single coating of wood stain to the table top and allow it to dry completely. When the table top is completely dry, attach the ready-made table legs that you had bought to the table top with metal brackets and deck screws. You can stain the ready made table legs with the same wood stain that you had used for the table top. This will give the dining table a polished and finished look.
