This is a very simple and easy woodworking project for beginners. This piece can be gifted as well as kept in your drawing room or can be used for candle light dinner at home. All you need to do is make a frame out of the four wooden legs while joining them with two small rods at the bottom and top. The variation in all the four sides would be that the opposite sides of the structure has to be joined at the bottom and top, respectively.

Once this is joined, you will get the skeleton of the lamp. Now what will make this a decorative piece of art is the way you finely cut the wax paper in order to make designs in the paper. That is incising the paper with a variety of similar designs to give it a simple yet professional-made look. For this, you need to fold the wax paper and cut designs of may be little starts or just little holes made with three toothpicks held together. Once you are done with this, this sheet of paper needs to be stuck around the frame.

The final touch of this frame is to cover the bottom and top with the square planks. A hole of about 2cm is to be made on the top sheet that will cover the lamp. This sheet is to be placed like a lid and the bottom plate is to be stuck permanently to the frame. Your frame is ready! You can either put a candle or a small electric bulb inside and see the way light is scattered through the designs you have made.

How to Make
Four frames are to be made with four popsicle sticks stuck end to end to make a square shaped frame. The wax paper now needs to be cut for covering the square frames. This is to be done for making the base of the lantern. So the frames need to be stuck onto each other. It will look like a step wise platform. The base will be ready with this. Then to work for decorating the lantern. You can decorate this as you want either by drawing and painting it or by cutting different patterns with different colored papers and sticking them onto the frame you have made.
