Woodworking Plans for Kids

There are many activities where you can involve children and they will be simply too willing to oblige. Woodworking is one of them! Children are creative and have a great imagination power. They also love to get involved in creating something new, play with colors and proudly flaunt their creation. Woodworking is one such activity that fits in all the above criteria. Here are some woodworking plans for kids to make toys and other interesting objects in a considerably lesser time!

Woodworking Plans for Kid's Toys

One of the most important tips to remember before beginning any wood projects for kids is to involve kids in all the activities: right from planning what to make, collecting the raw material to the final painting and decoration. The following are some of the simple and easy woodworking projects for kids. These woodworking plans for kids are designed using minimal tools for kid's safety!

Wooden Toy Box

    * Cut the plywood according to the required dimensions. Large ones for the front, the back, the top and the bottom; while two smaller pieces for both the sides.
    * Now lay the bottom board and hold the front piece and nail it with a 2 inch screw. Follow the same procedure with the back piece. Next place the sides with the help of screws from three sides.
    * Hold the top piece over the box; attach the safety hinges to the back and the top or the lid of the box. Attach a handle on the top of the lid.
    * All the screw holes should be filled with wood putty and the entire box should be sanded to smoothen it.
    * Your wooden toy box is ready. You can decorate it by painting or attaching crafts to it.

Wooden Puzzle

    * Make a rough sketch on a paper of the puzzle that you are going to make.
    * You can either draw a single picture of a person, an animal, a car, etc. as a puzzle. Draw the picture on the plywood. You can ask the kids to paint it.
    * Now cut the plywood into rectangular, triangular or square pieces with the help of a cutter.
    * Your puzzle is ready! As a kid's activity, you can ask the children to redo it!
    * You can also make another puzzle by drawing another picture at the back of this plywood. Join all the pieces to get a smooth surface at the back, draw a picture, jumble the pieces and ask the children to solve the puzzle!

Wooden Blocks

    * Cut the scraps of wood in desired shapes. You can either cut them all in square shape with similar dimensions or go for different shapes like stars, squares, triangles, rectangles, etc.
    * Now sand the corners of the wood with the help of a sandpaper until smooth.
    * Your wooden blocks are ready. You can paint them with different colors and draw alphabets or numbers on them.
    * The painting and decoration can be done as a kid's activity and the children will simply love to get involved!

Once you and the children get through these ideas on woodworking for beginners, you can try for more complex projects like woodworking plans for kid's beds or woodworking plans for kid's kitchen. It should be noted that these projects require use of heavy tools and hence, are not meant for children. It is rather advisable to stick to easy woodworking ideas like wooden clock, wooden toys, wooden rocking horse, etc.

These were some of the easy and simple woodworking plans for kids to be done as a fun filled activity at home. Once done with these, you can also try other projects on wooden toys which will help in flourishing your child's creativity! Good luck!
