A Little About Instant Coffee

George C Washington is the inventor of instant coffee. It was invented in the year 1906. He was a chemist by profession and an avid coffee drinker. Once he noticed a powdery buildup on his coffee pot. Taking cue from the buildup, he carried out some experiments and eventually came up with coffee in dried crystal form, very similar to what we use today. His coffee was sold under the brand name 'Red E Coffee'.

Now do you wonder, what is instant coffee exactly? Instant coffee is our regular coffee from which all the water content has been removed. Although some people may claim, that there is some mysterious process, which goes into making of instant coffee, it is not so. No chemical adulteration is carried out on the coffee beans, to make instant coffee. Therefore, contrary to popular belief, instant coffee is pure coffee nevertheless.

    * Instant Coffee 1 teaspoon
    * Sugar 1 teaspoon

    * You can boil water, but not to a rolling boil, either in a kettle, or in a pot. If you are in a hurry, then the best option is to microwave it.
    * Put coffee in a cup. Add ¼ teaspoon of water to the coffee to dampen the coffee.
    * Add sugar granules to the cup as well.
    * Using a spoon whip coffee and sugar granules together to make a thick paste. If requires add a drop or two of hot water to coffee.
    * Once the paste is light brown in color, add hot water to the cup along with milk. If you do not have milk, then you can make use of half and half or non dairy cream.
    * If you want to flavor your coffee, then you can add the flavorings now. Your instant coffee is now ready.

If you do not have time to whisk coffee powder and sugar granules together, add hot water to the coffee and sugar mixture and stir till sugar granules are well dissolved. At last add milk, cream or half and half, etc., to the coffee. This coffee also tastes good. However, according to me, the best coffee in the world is the one made by whisking coffee powder and sugar granules together.

How to Make Instant Coffee Taste Good?

Along with instant coffee recipe, there are some tips, which you may want to know, which will make instant coffee taste good as well. Before you add milk to coffee, make sure you have warmed it sufficiently. This will lend a richer taste to your coffee. If you are adding whole milk, half and half or cream, then you may have to increase the quantity of coffee. On the other hand, if you are making use of low fat or skimmed milk, then for one cup of coffee, you will need one teaspoon of coffee. If you make extra coffee mixture, store it in an air tight container in the refrigerator. This will ensure, that the coffee does not lose its aroma. If you want a layer of froth on your coffee, then add hot milk to the coffee and sugar mixture and then hot water to the cup. This will create a foam in the cup. If the coffee is not warm anymore, then instead of reheating it in the pot, opt to reheat it in the microwave. If the temperature of water is very high, it may change the taste of coffee.

Remember, the quantities mentioned may not suit everyone. Some people like their coffee strong for which you will have to increase the quantity of coffee powder.
