Instant Coffee Brands

I, myself being a caffeine addict can understand the importance of having those instant coffee powder sachets at home! I mean, you can comfortably rely on them in times when you feel depressed or too lazy or just mere bored. Well, needless to say, instant coffee can be made quickly and thus saves much of your time in brewing. Instant coffee brands are gaining increasing popularity these days and preferred over conventional ones by many. So let us go into the details of how these are manufactured and some best brands available in town.

What is Instant Coffee

There is not much of a difference between conventional and an instant coffee, only variation being that the latter one is more refined and processed to give finely powdered form. Now, instant coffees are manufactured mainly by 2 processes. Let us see what they are.

Freeze Drying
Initially, the coffee beans are taken in a chamber and roasted at high temperatures so that the flavor and aroma can be extracted within them after which they are finely granulated. The powder obtained is then hydrated using water. Then comes the essential step of freeze drying; it basically involves treating the hydrated powder inside another chamber under high pressure and temperature so that the frozen water crystals sublime that is, they convert from solid to gaseous phase without undergoing the intermediate liquid phase. The powder is cooled and packaged.

Spray Drying
Well, here, the process remains the same as above till the step of roasting and grinding. Later, when the powder is hydrated with water, it is passed through a chamber wherein it is exposed to hot gas at high temperature and the resultant extracted dry powder is taken out through the nozzle outlet. The powder obtained is packaged.

This is how an instant coffee is manufactured. Many companies prefer spray drying over freeze drying mainly because the former requires less time and is highly efficient. Now that you know the gist about instant coffee, let us see the best instant coffee brands.
